Friends of Marimanti

Respectful collaboration, sustainability, request-driven, friendship and trust

Friends of Marimanti is a Kenyan-Dutch charity which consists of both a Kenyan and Dutch board. Our charity is built on the basis of respectful and equal collaboration. In our charity, the Kenyan board voices ideas for projects and initiatives, taking into account the ideas and wishes of local staff and patients.

The focus lays on education, sustainability and accessibility of care in the fields of mother and child health, reproductive health and care for the poor.

Solar energy

Sustainability as a means of enabling 24/7 health care

Marimanti has a tropical savanna climate and as such is warm to hot during most seasons. This climate allows solar energy as a renewable energy source. Installing solar energy will save money which would normally be spent on generator fuel. Solar panels will save the hospital around €2000 per month. This money can be reallocated towards other purposes, such as access to health care for the poorest and improving maternal health care.

Continuous medical education

Ongoing training and education of health care workers

Through education we aim to ensure self-sufficiency amongst health care workers and paramedical professionals. The focus lays on education on maternal and neonatal health care, alongside reproductive health and in all other fields where knowledge gaps exist.
